The San Jose Sharks reclaimed a share of first-overall with a 3-2 shoot out victory over the Phoenix Coyotes. The win is San Jose's 5th straight and are now tied for the overall points lead in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks and the New Jersey Devils. The Washington Capitals are lucking in the weeds, only a single point back.
Evgeni Nabokov stopped Coyotes center Robert Lang to give the Sharks the win after Joe Pavelski scored the only goal in the shoot out, beating Phoenix netminder Ilya Bryzgalov with a lightning fast wrist shot. Pavelski also scored a shorthanded goal early in the 2nd period to give San Jose a 2-0 lead before the Coyotes tied it with 2 even strength goals in the second from Petr Prucha and Shane Doan.

Zach Parise scored twice, including the game winner as the New Jersey Devils won 3-2 over the Atlanta Thrashers for the Devils' 10th victory in their last 12 games. Parise had been goalless for the last 12 games, so he was obviously relieved to break out of that drought. The Thrashers have now lost their last 3 straight, and fall 14 points back of Southeast Division leading Washington Capitals, with both the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers one point back of the Thrashers.
