Last season, Nashville ended the year in the basement of the Central with 88 points, missing the playoffs by a scant 4 points, while in 2007-08 they finished 2nd in the division and squeaked into the playoffs with 91 points to grab the last spot.
Nashville is currently sitting at 49 points after 40 games and could end up with a 100 point season for the first time since 2006-07. Last season was the first time that Nashville had missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2002-03. The problem has been getting past the first round, which Nashville has failed to do, losing twice to the San Jose Sharks (2005-06 and again in 2006-07), and in 2007-08 to the eventual Cup winners from Detroit.
The Nashville Predators
They face the Columbus Blue Jackets today. Columbus has an abysmal record recently as they have only one win in their last 10 games, but this is also a divisional matchup with the Blue Jackets 11 points back of Nashville, so the Preds really need this one if the hope to make up some more ground on the Blackhawks.
