Kings Double Ottawa 6-3, Sens 3rd Straight Loss

The Los Angeles Kings handed the Ottawa Senators their 3 straight loss, while winning themselves for the 4th time in their last 5 games. Left winger Justin Williams scored twice in the 3rd to put the game out of reach for the Senators and Los Angeles moved into sole possession of 2nd place in the Pacific Division with the win.

Randy Jones put the Kings up early with his 4th goal this season at 42 seconds of the 2st period, beating Ottawa goalie Brian Elliott with a wrist shot from the slot after a pass from left winger Alexander Frolov. Mike Fisher tied the game 1-1 with a power play goal at 11:13 as Kings' Jarret Stoll's tripping penalty was ending.

Los Angeles' right winger Wayne Simmonds was sprung on a breakaway but was tripped by Ottawa defenseman Filip Kuba, prompting a penalty shot. Simmonds beat Elliott through the 5-hole to put the Kings up 2-1 at 17:24. That was the 9th goal of the year for Simmonds who now has a 5-game points scoring streak.

At 3:51 of the 2nd, Brad Richardson picked up a rebound in the slot snapping home his 2nd of the season after Dustin Brown swooped in on Elliott trying to stuff the puck through Elliott's legs, but Richardson was trailing the play, pouncing on the rebound. Four minutes later, Jonathan Cheechoo beat Jonathan Quick after a turnover in the Kings' zone and Senators' center Chris Kelly snapped a shot at Quick that rebounded to Cheechoo who was on Quick's right and the winger slammed in his 3rd goal of the season into the yawning cage. Fisher tied the game 3-3 at 11:32 picking up the puck in front of L.A.'s netminder Quick, popping in his second of the game and 12th goal this year, second best on the Sens.

Los Angeles defenseman Drew Doughty scored a power play goal to put the Kings up 4-3 with about 6 minutes left in the 2nd period and that proved to be the game winner. Anze Kopitar got an assist on the Doughty goal, Kopitar's first point in his last 5 games for the formerly top National Hockey League points leader. With his one point in the game, Kopitar is now in 4th place overall with 34 total points (14 goals, 20 assists in 29 games), 6 points back of points leader Joe Thornton who has 40 points.

As mentioned above, Justin Williams scored twice late in the 3rd period to put the Senators out of the game. They were Williams' 8th and 9th of the season.

The Senators have lost the first 3 of the 5 game western road trip. They now head to Phoenix to take on the Coyotes on Saturday. The Kings continue their current home stand, taking on the St Louis Blues, also on Saturday.
