Edmonton Shuts Down Red Wings 4-1

The Detroit Red Wings dropped their 4th of their last 6 games, losing 4-1 at home to the Edmonton Oilers as Patrick O'Sullivan scored twice in the 3rd. The win broke a 3 game losing streak for the Oilers.

Edmonton defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky scored his 6th of the year, opening the scoring at 5:50 of the 1st, putting an unassisted goal past Red Wings netminder Jimmy Howard. The Oilers went up 2-0 when Robert Nilsson dipsy-doodled through the Detroit team and deked Howard at point plank range. Howard's jock must have been hanging from the rafters after Nilsson showed moves his father, former Calgary Flames star, Kent Nilsson would have been proud of.

Oilers' netminder Jeff Deslauriers was only beaten by Dan Cleary with one second left in the 1st period. O'Sullivan scored his 5th and 6th goals of the year midway through the 2nd period and the Wings couldn't recover. There was no further scoring while both teams combined for 19 shots in the 3rd.
