Ducks Corey Perry Streak Extended To 19 Games In Loss To Kings
Even though right winger Corey Perry extended his points streak to 19 straight games, he no doubt would have preferred that his Anaheim Ducks got the 2 points in their game against the Los Angeles Kings.
Perry had a goal and an assist in the loss giving him 10 goals, 16 assists for 26 points in the Ducks' last 19 games. Perry has had at least one point in every game since October 17th, when he was kept off the score sheet in a 5-0 blow out by the St Louis Blues. So far this season Perry has been scoreless in only 3 of his 26 games. With the 2 points he picked up in this game, Perry is tied for 3rd overall in the points race with Patrick Marleau, Sidney Crosby, and Los Angeles' Anze Kopitar with 33 points.
Rookie Scott Parse and Justin Williams put the Kings up 2-0 midway through the 1st. Williams' was a power play goal that he tipped in past Anaheim goalie Jonas Hiller. Perry got the Ducks on the board with his 14th of the season, deflecting defenseman James Wisniewski's point shot. Ryan Getzlaf got his first of 2 assists on the play.
Randy Jones restored L.A.'s 2 goal lead at 6:40 of the 2nd, but Ryan Whitney's power play goal late in the period brought Anaheim back as the period ended with the Kings up 3-2.
The Ducks tied it up at 5:29 of the 3rd when Todd Marchant pounced on a big rebound given up by netminder Jonathan Quick off a shot by Anaheim rookie left winger Matt Beleskey. That was Beleskey's first National Hockey League point in 7 games. But the comeback hopes of the Ducks were deflated when Los Angeles center Brad Richardson scored his 1st of the season with a couple of minutes left in regulation for the win. That was a timely goal for Richardson, who hadn't scored since being acquired from the Colorado Avalanche last season, going 58 Kings' games without a goal.
With the loss, their 2 straight after winning their 3 previous games, the Ducks remain in the basement of the Pacific Division with 24 points, seven back of 4th place Dallas. The Kings have 2 straight wins, and are now 8 points back of division-leading San Jose.
The Kings host the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, while the Ducks are off until Friday when they head to Minnesota for a game against the Wild.
