Byfuglien's OT Goal Sinks Rangers In Chicago
The Chicago Blackhawks continue to roll, and this time they rolled over Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers, peppering the goalie with 41 shots in the Blackhawks' 2-1 overtime win.
Christopher Higgins put New York up 1-0 12:10 into the 1st when Higgins received a pass from Marian Gaborik just inside Chicago's blueline and fired a wrist shot that beat Cristobal Huet. That goal stood up until early in the 3rd period as Chicago captain Jonathan Toews capitalized on a scramble in Lundqvist's crease flipping his 8th of the season over the goalie. Chicago had 41 shots on Lundqvist compared to the meager 18 the Rangers could muster on Huet.
Because neither team could score in the remaining minutes of regulation, it went to overtime where right winger Dustin Byfuglien scored his 9th of the season to
Byfuglien picked up the puck in the Blackhawks' zone after Duncan Keith blocked Vaclav Prospal's shot, and raced down the left side, beating defenseman Matt Gilroy and slid the puck through Lundqvist's legs for the game winner.
Chicago next plays the Sabres in Buffalo on Friday, and the Rangers are at home Saturday to face Buffalo.
