Bertuzzi Scores Twice As Red Wings Take Ducks 3-2
Todd Bertuzzi scored his 100th career power play goal to complete the comeback of his Detroit Red Wings over the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in overtime. Bertuzzi's 5th of the season forced overtime and his 6th ended it as the Red Wings came back from 2-0 to start the 3rd.
Saku Koivu got his 5th of the year at 8:05 of the 2nd after a scoreless first period as he tipped in a Dan Sexton pass behind Detroit's Jimmy Howard. Sexton put Anaheim up 2-0 with a wrist shot that beat Howard with about a minute left in the second period. Sexton had his 2nd straight multipoint night with a goal and an assist after getting 2 goals against Dallas 3 nights earlier.
Detroit left winger Tomas Holmstrom got a power play goal at 2:17 of the 3rd with Anaheim's Ryan Getzlaf off on a hooking call to start the Red Wings on their comeback. Bertuzzi beat Anaheim netminder Jean-Sebastien Giguere with 10:24 left in the 3rd forcing overtime.
Defenseman Nick Boynton was nabbed for hooking with 14 seconds left in regulation, putting the Ducks down a man and Bertuzzi ended it by taking a pass from Brad Stuart as he was parked to Giguere's left and snapped a shot high over the Anaheim goalie's shoulder as he hugged the post.
