The Washington Capitals struck first with 2 goals early, but after that the Devils once again came back winning their 8th straight road game in convincing style. They Devils were outshot by the Caps 29-23, but once again Brodeur showed why he is considered among the best in the league. Washington's netminder, Jose Theodore allowed 4 goals on only 23 total shots.

Tomas Fleischmann scored his 7th goal of the season on the power play and then Mathieu Perreault tipped in his 2nd on defensman Mike Green's shot giving the Caps the early lead. Colin White got his first of the year to bring the Devils back to within one goal and then Jamie Langenbrunner, Zach Parise, and Matt Halischuk all scored in the 2nd period to put New Jersey up to stay. Corey Murphy put the game away with his wrist shot early in the third.

New Jersey's right winger Niclas Bergfors had his second consecutive multipoint game assisting both Langenbrunner and Halischuk's goals.
