Detroit Takes Out Canucks 3-1

Two minutes in Brad May goes back to work taking on the Canucks Rick Rypien. May lost badly in a fight against Columbus' big Jared Boll in the Red Wings' 9-1 shellacking of the Blue Jackets November 11th. May must have been wanting to make up for that by taking on Rypien, but ended up on the bottom of the pile with his jersey over his head. May is getting up there as he is now 37 years old. I know he can't allow the kids in the league to take liberties with his players, but he is not going to last much longer banging away at youngsters bigger and stronger than him. All I can say is - declining asset.

But onto the rest of the game. Tomas Holmstrom opened the scoring with his 9th of the year with a tip in. The Canucks' Mason Raymond tied it at 6:38 of the 2nd period. Raymond is having a great start scoring 8 times in his first 20 games. Last year he got 11 goals total in 72 games. Maybe he is stepping forward. Hopefully he'll remain healthy for the duration. Henrik Zetterberg put the Wings up 2-1 with a backhand and Niklas Kronwall got the empty net goal. Both Zetterberg and Kronwall have 2 straight multi-point games.

This was the Canucks 3rd straight loss where they've allowed 11 goals while potting a meager 3 goals total for themselves. Detroit meanwhile seem to have been sparked by their 5-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs scoring 12 and allowing only 2 in their last 2 games.

Vancouver goalie and team captain Roberto Luongo has a season 6-7 won/loss record and a (low for him) goals against average of .903. The Canucks face a home and home series against the Colorado Avalanche on the 14th at Colorado and then again play on the 20th in Vancouver.
