Depuis Scores OT Winner In Penguin's 6-5 Win Over Bruins

Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby both registered 3 points each in Saturday's game against the Boston Bruins, Malkin getting 3 assists and Crosby registering his first goal in 8 games along with 2 assists. Bill Guerin scored with one second remaining to prolong the game. Pascal Depuis scored the overtime winner at 1:24 to give the Penguins their first win in Pittsburgh's last 5 games. This was Depuis' 2nd goal of the game which capped a last second comeback. That stretch was marked by a lack of production by Pittsburgh's captain, Sidney Crosby who was limited to a single assist over a 7-game period up until this game.

The teams traded goals all night with Pittsburgh scoring first when Jay McKee got his first of the season against Bruins' goalie Tim Thomas. Malkin assisted on that goal in his first game back since missing Pittsburgh's last 7 games with a shoulder injury. Up until that point Malkin had been scoring at his usual torrid pace, and the 3 assists in this game give him 4 goals and 10 assists for 14 points in the 10 games the 23 year old has appeared this season. Crosby obviously missed having Malkin on the ice as his own production completely dried up. Crosby's 3 assists give him 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 20 games. Sid the Kid had one assist in 6 games while Malkin was missing from the Penguins' lineup.

Blake Wheeler scored his 5th of the season to tie it up, but Depuis put the Penguins up again with his 4th of the season with 3 and a half left in the first period. In the 2nd, Michael Ryder tied it again, but Crosby netted his 10th and then Derek Morris tied it again 3-3 at 15:02 of the second period.

In the 3rd, Mark Eaton put the Pens up until David Krejci popped in a power play goal while Crosby was serving a tripping minor. With two and a half left in regulation Marco Sturm got his 4th of the season off a tip-in on Zdeno Chara's point shot giving the Bruins the lead for the first time in the game. It looked like the Bruins were going to take this one until Guerin got the tying goal with only 4/10ths of a second left. Depuis' goal in OT was pretty much due to a miscue as Thomas played the puck behind his own net to Evgeni Malkin who quickly passed to Depuis who slipped it past a surprised Thomas into the net for the Penguins' victory.
