The Hockey Hall of Fame will soon have 4 new members. On Monday, November 10, 2008 Glenn Anderson, Ed Chynoweth (posthumously), Igor Larionov and Ray Scapinello will be inducted into the Hall. There will be a featured game on November 9th pitting Montreal Canadiens Legends vs. All Star Legends. The newest inductees, Anderson and Larionov will suit up against the likes of former Habs captains Yvon Cournoyer, Vincent Damphousse and Kirk Muller. Players for the All Stars will include HOFers Paul Coffey, Jari Kurri and Mark Messier, which should be a bit of fun for Anderson as all three were former teammates with him on the great Edmonton Oiler teams of the mid to late 1980s.
Igor Larionov joined the NHL from Russia for the 1989-90 season with the Vancouver Canucks as a 29-year old. He played 14 years in the NHL emassing 169 goals and 475 assists for 644 points in 921 games. During his time with the Detroit Red Wings he won 3 Stanley Cups.
Ed Chynoweth was the long time president of the Western Hockey League from 1972 until 1995. Chynoweth also helped to form the CHL in 1972, bringing Canada's three major-junior leagues under one banner, and served as its president from 1975 until 1995. In 2007, the WHL renamed its championship trophy the Ed Chynoweth Cup in his honour.[3] The Ed Chynoweth Trophy, awarded to the top scorer at the Memorial Cup tournament is named after him.
Ray Scapinello was a linesman for 33 years in the NHL and never missed a game due to injury or illness. Well known for his blazing speed, Scapinello officiated in 20 Stanley Cup Finals.
