Dany Heatley has started the 2008-09 season by going gangbusters. The Ottawa Senators' left winger has 9 goals and 6 assists for 15 points in his first 13 games this season.
Heatley is trying to bounce back from a slightly less successful campaign last year when he scored only 41 times after back-to-back 50 goal seasons for the Sens, who will need him to step up if they want to make any noise in the post-season. Heatley is about to score his 500th career NHL point this season as he has career totals of 230 goals, 256 assists for 486 points in his 438 games. Heatley is also a stellar plus-56 over his career in the plus-minus category, meaning he's been on the ice for 56 more times that his team has scored than when they've been scored upon.
Heatley is currently tied for 9th overall in the 2008-09 points scoring race and 3rd for most goals this season. Thomas Vanek of the Buffalo Sabres leads the league with 11 goals, followed by Alexander Semin with 10. Heatley is in a 6-way tie for 3rd with 9 goals.
Of his 13 games so far this season, Heatley has been held without a point only 2x all season and is currently on a 5 game point-scoring streak.
