Buffalo Sabres Remain Undefeated

The Buffalo Sabres undefeated season continues after beating the Minnesota Wild 4-3 in overtime. Both squads entered the game as 2 of only 3 NHL without a loss in this young season (Montreal Canadiens are also unbeaten). Both teams are still carrying spotless records during regulation play. The Sabres are now 6-0-1 for 13 points, tops in the Northeast Division and tied with the New York Rangers for most points in the NHL, although the Rangers have played 2 more games than Buffalo.

The Sabres are winning in tough style, having come back from 2 goal deficits in their last 2 games. They trailed 2-0 against the Boston Bruins midway through the second period in Tuesday's game before rallying to a 3-2 win and last night they were behind 3-1 late against Minnesota in regulation play before scoring twice in a 46 second span to force overtime and then scored 44 into sudden death to complete their comeback.

Thomas Vanek has been a standout for the Sabres so far, scoring 8 goals and 3 assists for 11 points in the 8 games he has played. Vanek leads the league for most goals at this early stage and is second overall pointwise. Pittsburgh Penguins' Evgeni Malkin is 2 points ahead of Vanek in the league points scoring race with 3 goals and 10 assists for 13 points.

The Sabres hope their streak continues Saturday when they visit the Colorado Avalanche, while Minnesota will be at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
