
Martin Brodeur made 25 saves as the New Jersey Devils beat the Atlanta Thrashers 1-0. With this shutout, Brodeur takes another step closer to hockey immortality as he now needs only 6 more shutouts to tie the record held by Hall of Famer Terry Sawchuk. Sawchuk's record of 103 career shutouts has been long thought untouchable. Even the great Patrick Roy only tallied 66 shutouts during his stellar 20-year career.
Brodeur's 97 shutouts is by itself incredible. The next active goalie in the top career shutout list is Curtis Joseph with 51. There's no one else even close to Brodeur's numbers. Here's a list of goalies with the most career shutouts:
