Alexander Ovechkin picked up where he left off last night scoring 2 goals and adding an assist as the Washington Capitals whipped the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2.
Michael Nylander also popped in 2 goals after missing a ton of games last year because of a shoulder injury. The Caps scored 3 third period goals to put away the Hurricanes for the second night in a row after beating Carolina 4-1 the previous night.
Dan LaCouture and Ryan Bayda both scored power play goals in the first period giving Carolina a 2-0 lead halfway through the period, but the Capitals knuckled down and shut down the Canes for the rest of the game. In the second period, Michael Nylander scored with assists to Ovechkin and Chris Bourque before Ovechkin scored on a penalty shot against Canes goalie Daniel Manzato at 14:52 in the second to tie the game.
The third period was all Washington as Nylander scored at 2:20, followed by Chris Bourque scoring at 6:08. Ovechkin scored the backbreaker at 12:51 with a power play goal with a quick shot through traffic from the point.
